Sometimes you don’t know how valuable something is until you don’t have it. That’s the thing about gear, it can be a magic tool that can make or break your trip.
I recently took a week-long backpacking trip. Knowing the mosquitoes would be as thick as soup out there I bought a brand new backwoods repellent. However, when I found myself 20 miles from civilization being eaten alive by mosquitoes it was only then I learned that the spray nozzle on the container did not work and as a result, I got eaten alive. Another good tip is to always test your gear before you head out. Even something as minor as your bug spray.
With that, here are five of my favorite pieces of gear that I never go on a trip without and have never let me down. Perhaps some of these may make your next adventure a little more comfortable.
